It’s important to routinely check over your car for things like leaks, but once you find something leaking it is also important to know how to identify what is actually going on. One thing that you’ll probably see a lot of this summer is water leaking out of the front of a car. But why is this and is it normal? Take a look below to learn more!
There is a lot of different types of fluid that could be leaking, especially out of the front of your car where most of the fluids happen to be held. However, it is not uncommon to see water leaking from the front of the car, especially if you’re currently running your car’s AC. The first thing you should do is make sure that what is leaking is actually water. We recommend patting it with a paper towel or napkin to make sure that it’s clear and odorless, which confirms that it is probably water.
Next, you should think about what the weather conditions are like. Is it hot and humid? If you’re running the AC, there’s a good chance that it is! But on the hottest and muggiest days, there is more moisture in the air, which is removed by your car’s AC unit. To get rid of that water, your car dumps it through a rubber hose in the front. So if you stop at a gas station for snacks or to stretch your legs, it’s pretty normal to see a small puddle of water in front of you.
